AFGHAN STORIES: Exhibit Web Gallery

Many news stories out of Afghanistan cover the ongoing insurgency and hardships of war. But few tell of how people are rebuilding in war's aftermath. This body of work, exhibited at five venues in New England in 2008 - 2009, explores this other side of Afghanistan. KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - 4/18/2006: Women in burqas shop for shoes and other goods at Mandawi Market in Kabul. Although no longer required to wear burqas on the street, many women still do out of habit or fear of reprisals from male relatives. During Taliban times women were not allowed on the street without an escort from a male relative, but now, with or without a burqa, women can go about their business on their own.
